# Local peptide clinic: start with the basics.

[Understand the words](https://localpeptideclinic.com/plain-start/)

The US agency in charge of reviewing medicines is the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

## First, what is a peptide?

Peptides are tiny chains of joined parts, like beads on a string.

Some peptides carry signals in the body, including signals about hunger and blood sugar.

The word can appear on a medicine label or in a sales pitch. Start by asking what the exact product is.

- Semaglutide, sold as Ozempic and Wegovy, has FDA-approved medicine products in the US, as of September 2026.

- A doctor or pharmacy makes a compounded medicine to order; as of September 2026, such medicines have no FDA approval.

- As recorded in September 2026, neither BPC-157 nor retatrutide has an FDA-approved medicine product in the US.

- FDA also says retatrutide cannot legally be made into a compounded medicine under federal law, as of September 2026.

## What an approval answer tells you

For BPC-157, lack of approval alone does not settle whether a pharmacy can lawfully prepare it to order, as of September 2026.

- If either name is offered, ask the prescriber to explain the product's legal status before making a choice.

- Ask which rules allow that exact product to be used for your care.

## Make the search about your question

A treatment name is a starting point for a conversation. Put the problem you want help with beside it.

- What is the exact medicine being discussed?

- What is the reason for considering it?

- Who will assess me and answer follow-up questions?

- What would the full bill include?
