Questions before care

Field sheet · Prepare a visit

Make room for the questions that matter.

A visit can move quickly. Put your main question at the top. Ask for a plain answer, then write down what is still unclear.

Begin with the reason for care

Name what you want help with before talking about a particular medicine.

  • What do we know about the problem?
  • What else needs checking?
  • What choices could meet this need?
  • What would waiting or using no medicine involve?

Get the product answer in plain words

Ask for the exact name, its form, and the reason it is being considered.

  • What is this medicine meant to do for this problem?
  • Where can I read the evidence for that use?
  • Who makes the finished product?
  • If it is made to order, why is that needed?

Ask who stays in the conversation

The medical boards' guidance says you must be able to ask the health professional more questions, as checked in September 2026.

That guidance says a doctor cannot provide proper care by ordering a medicine just because you picked it from a list, without assessing you.

  • How will we know whether the plan is helping?
  • Who can explain a problem between visits?
  • When will we review the plan?
  • What happens if this option does not fit?

Leave with a bill you understand

Ask for the price of the plan you have discussed, in writing.

  • What is included in this quote?
  • What is charged separately?
  • What changes after an introductory offer?
  • How do cancellation and refunds work?
