Questions before care

Field sheet · Plan for follow-up

# Know how to get help before a problem.

A care plan needs an answer for the days between visits. Ask who can explain the product, who handles a problem, and how to reach them.

The US agency in charge of reviewing medicines is the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

## Get the instructions for the exact product

Storage differs by medicine: some peptide products stay cold and others stay at room temperature.

FDA has received reports of harm that may be linked to patients measuring the wrong amount of pharmacy-made semaglutide for their own injections.

Some reports also involved health professionals calculating the wrong amount.

Some of those reports described care in a hospital.

- Ask the pharmacist to explain the written instructions.

- Ask how this exact product is stored.

- Ask what to do if a label or direction is unclear.

- Ask who can help before using a product you do not understand.

## Ask about a delivery problem

FDA says not to use semaglutide injections if they reach you warm or have not been kept cool enough.

- Ask the pharmacy what the delivery needs to include.

- Get its plan for a damaged or poorly cooled delivery.

- Keep the product details for the person answering the question.

## Know when help cannot wait

The US health library MedlinePlus treats a severe allergic reaction as an emergency; breathing trouble or tongue swelling calls for emergency help.

- Call emergency services for severe symptoms of an allergic reaction.

- Ask your health professional which other problems need urgent help.

- Write down how routine questions are handled between visits.

## Report a medicine problem

MedWatch is FDA's free service where patients can report a problem with a medicine.

MedWatch is a way to send a report. Bring questions about your own care to the person treating you.

- Keep the exact product name and pharmacy details.

- Ask the care professional about the next step.

- Use the FDA report link if you want to report the problem.
